Andrew A. Aines (1913-1996) was a pioneer in the field of information science and a leader in the development of national information programs. Over the course of his long career he was, among other things, director of the Defense Science and Technical Information Program (Department of Defense), director of the Energy Science and Technical Information Program (Department of Energy), and Scholar-in-Residence at the National Library of Medicine. Some of his research interests included national information system development, scientific and technical communications, communications research and development, and international affairs. Included in the collection are correspondence, manuscripts, reports, and memoranda.
